Wildlife tracking apps can put animals at risk if location data is careless. why south is built so that sharing a sighting never makes an animal easier to find.

• Sensitive locations are masked

  Sightings of rhino, pangolin, wild dog and other targeted species are published as a broad region only. No coordinates, no park sector, no timestamps precise enough to track an animal.

• Keep your distance

  Stay in your vehicle in national parks, never block an animal's path, and never use calls, food or bait to draw an animal closer for a photograph.

• Nesting and denning sites are off limits

  Do not share the location of nests, dens or roosts. Repeated disturbance causes abandonment of young.

• Report wildlife crime, do not investigate it

  If you see snaring, poaching or illegal trade, report it to park authorities immediately. Do not post details publicly.

• Sightings support conservation science

  Aggregated, anonymised distribution data helps researchers understand range shifts. Accuracy matters more than volume.
